At present, the production capacity is insufficient, and the regions that need to import mainly include Southeast Asia, Central and South America, Western Europe, the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa, Australia and other regions, accounting for 23%, 20%, 15%, 13%, 9%, 8% and 3% of imports respectively.
The export destination countries of China's soda ash are mainly Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia, among which South Korea is the largest, with the export volume of 135,600 tons in 2021, accounting for 18%. Other major export destination countries include Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Japan, North Korea, Thailand, China Taiwan, etc. Accounts for 14%, 13%, 13%, 10%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 3%, respectively. Other countries accounted for 17% of exports.
In 2022, the import and export pattern was reversed, with a large increase in exports, which climbed to a record high of 210,000 tons in July. The main reason is that the cost advantage of foreign soda ash decreased after the surge of foreign energy prices. The main reason behind the sharp increase of domestic soda export in 2022 is the surge of foreign energy prices.
